This 225 kilowatt solar PV system was the largest municipal solar system in Ohio when installed. It is located on a set of car canopies over the Athens Community Center parking lot. The City of Athens utilized Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) financing provided by SolarVision LLC (Westerville, OH,) to obtain the solar system. No capital was required by the City of Athens. The system provides more than 25% of the annual electricity for the large Athens Community Center. The system saves them thousands of dollars on electric costs over each of the next 20 years. The system was constructed using 936 Sharp 240 watt modules mounted on four large car canopy structures. Each structure has 234 modules (6 rows of 39 modules mounted in portrait mode). They feed two PV Powered 100KW inverters.

It utilizes 48 Sharp 224 watt modules and two SunnyBoy 5000 inverters. The electricity produced provides a substantial part of the dentist office power usage.
